It is written: "If
anyone comes to me and does not hate his father and mother and wife and
children and brothers and sisters, and even his own life, he can not be my
disciple." (Lk 14.26. ) it is also written: "Do not think that I have
come to bring peace on earth; I have not come to bring peace, but a sword. For
I have come to set a man against his father, a daughter against her mother, and
the daughter against her mother; and a man's enemies will be those of his
household. "(Matt 10.34-37)
They seem bigoted
expressions of an exalted religious radicalista. But let's look at the context:
"Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers; for what fellowship
hath righteousness with unrighteousness? And what communion has light with
darkness? And what concord hath Christ with Belial? Or what part has a believer
with an unbeliever? And what agreement has the temple of God and idols? For ye
are the temple of the living God, as God said, dwell and walk among them, and
be their God, and they shall be my people .: Wherefore come out from among them
and be separate, says the Lord, and touch no unclean thing; And I will receive
you, And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, says
the Lord Almighty. "
Belong to the true
people of God, not in the earthly sphere (Israel), but in the heavenly
dimension (Kingdom of God or heaven), it is a privilege too large. That's why
Paul says: "So, beloved, since we have these promises, let us cleanse
ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in
the fear of God." (2-Co.7.1).
Sometimes rid of some
family or social, or certain state requirements attachments can cost us pain
and sacrifice. So the apostles courageously responded to the emissaries of the
Empire who sought to thwart the divine plan:
"We must obey God
rather than men." (Acts 5. 29), and Jesus, "while still talking to
the people, behold, his mother and his brothers stood outside, to speak to him.
Then one said, Behold, your mother and your brothers are outside, and they want
to speak he answered that told him, said: Who is my mother and who are my
brothers? And extending his hand toward his disciples, and said, Behold my
mother and my brothers. For whoever does the will of my Father that heaven is my
brother and sister and mother. "(Mt.12. 46-50).
Family of faith, or
holy nation, is one made up of believers who are organized as members of the
Body of Christ, that the same Spirit of God can legislate in their individual
lives and community. "So whether you eat or drink, or whatsoever ye do, do
all to the glory of God." "And whatever you do, do it heartily, as to
the Lord and not for men; knowing that the Lord receive the reward of the
inheritance; for you serve the Lord Christ "(1-Co.10.31; Col.3.23-24).
